MEET THE MEMBERS OF THE SARNIA HISTORICAL SOCIETY AT SEPTEMBER’S FIRST FRIDAY

Sarnia, ON –    The Sarnia Historical Society is planning to welcome Sarnians who wish to learn more about the city’s past to a special First Friday exhibit at The Story downtown on September 4th.

The First Friday event at The Story, located at 179 N. Christina Street, will also feature other history-themed exhibitors and follows the widely successful launch of the group’s new website, www.sarniahistoricalsociety.com.

The Sarnia Historical Society’s board members, including President Ron RealeSmith, Vice President Laura Greaves and Editor-in-Chief Phil Egan, will all be on hand to discuss the launch of the website and future plans for the Society. RealeSmith and Greaves will be presenting content from the website throughout the evening.

“We have put a tremendous amount of work into our website and our collaboration with The Sarnia Journal

[a special 40-page publication entitled Sarnia: Then and Now.. We are looking forward to meeting with people to hear what they have learned about Sarnia’s history since our launch and to discuss our plans for future Society projects,” Greaves explains. Copies of The Journal’s special Then and Now feature will also be distributed at The Story as long as supplies last.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet with the organizers of several other projects related to Sarnia’s history, including the preservation of the Cull Drain Bridge and the history of the South Ward. As well, Dave Burwell will present his large collection of historical post cards and the Sarnia Heritage Committee will be on hand with historical photos of Sarnia to view.

“This is a chance to come and learn about some of the fascinating historical projects that are currently underway in Sarnia, and perhaps to see if there is something you might be able to contribute,” Greaves adds.
