Press Release: For Immediate Release
(Sept. 8, 2015) The 175-year history of the Sarnia Fire Department is being researched for a new book, according to Ron RealeSmith of the Sarnia Historical Society.
The project is the latest venture by Sarnia’s resurgent new team of historical activists who recently launched their new content-rich website www.sarniahistoricalsociety.com. The website contains hundreds of original and previously-published tales describing Sarnia’s rich past in various content categories.
RealeSmith says that the Society’s fire research began over a month ago and is partly reflected in a couple of stories contained in The Sarnia Journal’s “Then and Now” 40-page special feature recently released (copies are still available at The Journal or from the Historical Society).
“Firefighting in Sarnia dates back to the 1840s, beginning with volunteer bucket brigades called out by the church bells of St. Andrew’s,” explained RealeSmith. “We think that the story of Sarnia’s Bravest is one well worth telling.”
Sarnians with information, photos or historical fire department artifacts to share about Sarnia’s fire history are invited to contact Society Editor Phil Egan with information at (519) 491-6361 or by Email to [email protected].
