Today we met with the staff who run the Welland Museum.
Website: http://www.wellandmuseum.ca/
We met with Nora Reid, the Executive Director and Jenn Tiegs who is their Archivist and Registrar.
Nora gave us an overview of their history, who they are and where they are going. As with many museums, Nora wears many hats and is very busy so we were excited that she could spare us some time to discus the ins and outs of running the museum, engaging the community and getting ready to re-open their museum after much needed renovations.
We talked about who we are and our plans for Sarnia. Nora provided some invaluable information for funding, reaching out and encouragement.
Jenn is tasked with the very important role of securing, documenting, organizing and preserving everything that is currently in their possession and what comes through their museum. We got nerdy and talked about copyright law. There is much to learn as all of these laws recently changed in January of this year.
Jenn provided us with contacts throughout the province which can help answer questions for Historical Societies and Museums. It’s great to know that these people exist and come to your aid when needed.
Their Museum re-opens May 7th, 2015 and we have been invited back for their launch.
Thanks Welland for your hospitality. Hopefully one day, we can return the favor!!
