The Sarnia gravesite of Prime Minister Alexander Mackenzie is in “fair” condition and will be getting some needed repairs, the federal environment minister says.
The Mackenzie monument in Lakeview Cemetery was inspected by Parks Canada in November and found to have a number of deficiencies, Catherine McKenna said in a letter to Mayor Mike Bradley.
“High-priority work identified for the site includes replacing the missing Father of Confederation plaque, cleaning and repair of stone work, as well as 3D scanning of the stone inscriptions, which are fading with time,” she said.
No time frame was given for when the work will begin.
